5 Wedding Budget Tips
I think setting a wedding budget is one of the hardest parts of wedding planning. You might know what you want but probably have no idea how much things cost or where to start. Here are five wedding budget tips to give you some guidance.
1. Prioritize
There are so many items you will slowly add to your budget spreadsheet, but it is important to take a step back and come up with a list of priority items in order to prioritize your spending. (Here is a quick cheat list: bride's dress, groom's tuxedo, food, venue, guest list size, flowers, cake, drinks, DJ/band, planner/coordinator, photographer, honeymoon, etc.)
2. Put Together a Guest List
In order to get some quotes you will need at least an idea of your guest list size. Once you get a number, look at rules of thumb to get an understanding about quantities to help you do the math for your budget. Here are some examples:
3. Get Quotes
Once you have your priority items, get a couple of quotes for each in order to understand different options and costs. This exerciseis a great reality check to set expectations and get clarity around your budget.
4. Talk with Your Families
Talk with your parents or family members that have suggested interest in helping out with the wedding. This is an awkward conversation, and I recommend each of you have it with your respective families. Also keep in mind your family members will likely have no idea how much things cost, so be prepared (with the quotes you already got) to answer their questions.
5. Save on Low Priority Items
Since you have a priority list, save money on low priority items when possible. Here are some ideas:

Ask guests to RSVP via email or your wedding website to save on stationery and stamps.
Serve the whole wedding cake to save on dessert.
Find pretty and cheaper stationery online.
Choose a venue where you can bring your own wine/alcohol.
